📖 The excursion

Boat Ride to the
Upsala and Spegazzini Glaciers

All Glaciers is the most complete boat ride on Lago Argentino: a 9-hour day visiting the Upsala (the largest, 765 km²) and Spegazzini (the tallest, 135 meters) glaciers, with a 2-hour landing at Base Spegazzini to walk through Patagonian forests with panoramic views.

From Puerto Punta Bandera (45 km from El Calafate), the boat sails across the North Arm of Lago Argentino, crossing the Upsala Channel among blue ice floes, some the size of a house. Along the way you can also see the Seco, Heim Sur and Peineta glaciers hanging from the mountains.

The highlight is the landing at Base Spegazzini, where a 600-meter trail with wooden boardwalks leads to three panoramic viewpoints facing the 135-meter ice wall — the height of a 45-story building. At the end of the trail, the Spegazzini Refuge has a cafeteria where you can have lunch with a view of the glacier (you can bring your own packed lunch or buy food there).

The excursion is suitable for all ages, as it does not require any special physical effort. The catamaran is stable and modern.

The Upsala Glacier

The Upsala Glacier is the largest on Lago Argentino and one of the biggest in Argentine Patagonia: it covers around 765 km² and its front is over 4 km wide. During the boat ride you cross the Upsala Channel among huge blue ice floes that have broken off the glacier, some the size of a house. The Upsala Glacier is born in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and is one of the most striking sights of the excursion.

The Spegazzini Glacier

The Spegazzini Glacier is the tallest of the excursion: its ice wall reaches 135 meters, the height of a 45-story building. After sailing in front of its imposing face, you make the landing at Base Spegazzini, where a boardwalk trail leads to panoramic viewpoints facing the glacier and to the Spegazzini Refuge with a cafeteria. The Spegazzini Glacier is the highlight of the All Glaciers tour.

❓ Before you book

Book All Glaciers: price, duration and departure

You can book online right on this page: choose a date and number of passengers and get instant confirmation. If you'd prefer some guidance, message us on WhatsApp at +54 9 2966 708029 and we'll arrange your booking.
The price starts from the "From" value shown at the top of this page (per adult, boat ride; the transfer is optional and added separately). The final price depends on the season and the number of passengers: you see it instantly in the booking calculator or by asking us on WhatsApp.
It is a full-day excursion: approximately 10 to 11 hours including the transfer from El Calafate and the boat ride on Lago Argentino. If you go to the port on your own, the time on the water is a bit shorter.
The boat ride departs from Puerto Punta Bandera, about 45 km from El Calafate. The round-trip transfer from your hotel is optional: check whether your package includes it or add it when booking. If you drive your own vehicle, you go directly to the port.
You visit two glaciers on Lago Argentino: the Upsala —the largest— and the Spegazzini —the tallest—, sailing among icebergs that have broken off the ice fields.
We recommend layered clothing, a windbreaker jacket, sunscreen and a camera. Bring warm clothes even if it's sunny: on the lake and near the glaciers the wind lowers the feels-like temperature a lot.
