📖 The excursion

Big Ice:
Extreme Ice Trekking

The Big Ice is the most extreme and immersive walk on the Perito Moreno Glacier: 3 hours on the ice that take you to the center of the glacier, much farther than any other excursion. Along the way you discover unique formations: intensely blue lagoons, deep crevasses, sinkholes and ice caves.

The day combines a boat ride facing the glacier wall, a trek of about 4 hours through the Patagonian Andean Forest to the base of the ice, and the 3 hours of walking with crampons on the glacier led by mountain guides.

At the highest point you have a picnic on the ice and toast with a glass of whisky chilled with ice from the glacier itself. Unlike the Minitrekking —which walks 1:30 on the ice—, the Big Ice goes much deeper and requires very good physical fitness. Only for people aged 18 to 50 years.

Which one suits you?

If you're after maximum adventure and are physically fit → choose the Big Ice. Up to 3 hours walking toward the heart of the glacier, exploring crevasses, seracs and ice caves. Requires 18 to 50 years and good fitness.

If it's your first time on the ice or you're traveling with family → choose the Minitrekking. It's the most popular excursion at Perito Moreno: 1h30 walking on the glacier with crampons and a guide, from age 8, medium difficulty. Includes a boat ride and a whisky toast with millennia-old ice.

If you want to see the glacier without walking on it → choose the Walkways. The panoramic balconies facing the glacier wall, suitable for all ages and with no physical effort. The classic must-do visit.

If you want to touch the ice without putting on crampons → choose the Safari Azul. You sail the Brazo Rico, walk through the forest and get close enough to touch the south wall of the glacier with your hands. Suitable from 6 to 70 years.

If you're short on time or just want the boat ride → choose the Safari Náutico. A 1-hour boat ride facing the south face of the glacier, from a vessel with panoramic windows. Suitable for all ages and the most affordable option.
