📖 The excursion
El Chaltén Self-Guided Visit:
The trekking capital

This activity includes a guided transfer from El Calafate to El Chaltén where you can visit the main attractions the town of El Chaltén has to offer. It is ideal for those looking to enjoy nature independently and take in the postcard landscapes of the National Trekking Capital, with spectacular views of the iconic Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.

The excursion begins when we pick you up at your hotel in El Calafate at 8:00 a.m. to head along the legendary Ruta 40 toward El Chaltén. The route runs alongside Lake Argentino, crosses the Santa Cruz River and the La Leona River, and after 1 hour 15 minutes reaches the historic Parador La Leona (almost a museum of Ruta 40), where you can have coffee with homemade cakes. It then continues along Lake Viedma and, before arriving, makes a stop at the Viedma Glacier viewpoint with a panoramic view of the glacier, the Andes Mountain Range and the Fitz Roy and Torre peaks.

After about 3 hours of travel and 220 km you arrive in El Chaltén, where you will have 5 to 6 free hours to explore its trails at your own pace (self-guided hiking). The return to El Calafate is approximately at 16:30, arriving at the hotel around 19:00.

🍽️ Optional lunch

Optional lunch at a restaurant in El Chaltén (+$30.000 per person). It is not included in the base rate — when booking you can add it by checking the "Lunch" box.
