ESCONDIDO
& FAGNANO LAKES
Conventional · Ushuaia
Travel by van along National Route 3 and the Garibaldi Pass to Escondido and Fagnano Lakes. Mountain landscapes, lakes and Fuegian forest, with no off-road sections and suitable for the whole family.
One of Ushuaia's classic tours, ideal for discovering the interior of Tierra del Fuego in a comfortable van, with no off-road sections and suitable for the whole family. We depart at 9:00 am and cross the mountain range over the Garibaldi Pass to Escondido and Fagnano Lakes.
After the transfer from your hotel, we take the legendary National Route 3. We skirt Monte Olivia and the Sierra Alvear, and cross the vast Carbajal Valley, a peat valley surrounded by lenga and ñire forests, the hub of the region's winter activities.
At the Garibaldi Pass viewpoint (430 m) we stop for one of the most impressive views in Tierra del Fuego: Escondido Lake below, enclosed by mountains, and Fagnano Lake stretching toward Chile — one of the largest lakes in South America, located on the Magallanes fault.
We head down to the shores of both lakes and explore the area of the old sawmills, where the timber industry left its mark among lenga forests. On the way back, we stop at a country restaurant to enjoy (optional) a traditional Fuegian lunch, such as the famous lamb.
