OJO DEL ALBINO
GLACIER Trekking and glacier trekking
The most complete mountain challenge in Ushuaia: 21 km combining trekking, climbing and glacier trekking, from the Esmeralda Lagoon to the Ojo del Albino Glacier. With a mountain guide, a packed lunch and technical equipment included.
Ojo del Albino Glacier
Living the experience of being a mountaineer in the Andes is possible with this itinerary that brings together every adventure setting: it begins with trekking, continues with climbing and ends with glacier trekking. The trail starts along the traditional path to the Esmeralda Lagoon; once that stage is over, you take a trail along the right-hand side of the lagoon, at a slower and more controlled pace, among fallen trees and old beaver dams.
On leaving the vegetation line we head into mountain terrain with continuous slopes where the real physical demand begins. Among large unstable rocks we reach a natural terrace overlooking the Esmeralda Lagoon and the Sorondo range, with views of Mount Olivia and the Cinco Hermanos. From there we look for the best pass to climb up to the glacier —the most delicate section, where the guide assists with ropes and carabiners—. Almost without warning that immense sea of ice appears, with the Torres de Rhino standing guard. Before the glacier trekking you enjoy a hot lunch. It is a high-difficulty trek, for people aged 12 to 55 in good physical shape.
